Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of integrating local wisdom-based social studies learning in fostering moral values among students. In the context of character education, utilising local wisdom is essential as it reinforces moral values such as tolerance, cooperation, and honesty through traditions and cultural practices within the community. Employing a qualitative approach with a case study design at MTsN 1 Jember an institution embedded within a rich socio-cultural environment data were collected through classroom observations, interviews with teachers and students, and analysis of documents such as syllabi and lesson plans. The findings reveal that incorporating local wisdom into social studies lessons effectively nurtures moral values by linking theoretical concepts with students’ lived experiences. Teachers play a pivotal role in guiding students to internalise and practise these values. Nevertheless, challenges such as limited resources and time constraints hinder full implementation, indicating the need for more flexible, collaborative strategies. Overall, this study concludes that local wisdom-based learning enriches students’ social understanding while significantly contributing to the development of strong character and sound moral conduct.
